Jerry Rightmer, president and CTO, Starmount, with Mark McKelvey, divisional vice president, Retail Solutions, REI, at the 11th annual Cross-Channel Retail Executive Summit in San Antonio. On October 4th, RIS News announced the winners of the 9th Annual Fusion Awards, which are designed to recognize retail companies that are category leaders, successful business performers, and technology innovators, specifically in the area of cross-channel excellence and fusing IT solutions with business strategy.
REI was awarded for Best Cross-Channel Customer Experience for its “Mobile Selling Assistant,” a mobile selling application developed by Starmount, which enables associates to meet customers in the aisle at the point of decision, providing a consultative sale as well as processing transactions, selling memberships, accessing loyalty data, and redeeming REI dividends — without ever leaving the customer’s side. Using the devices has also enabled REI to increase store throughput and reduce customers’ wait time in line.
However, this is not the first time a Starmount customer has been recognized for having the Best Cross-Channel Customer Experience — Urban Outfitters took home this same award in 2011. Long known as an innovator in in-store technology, the retailer has rolled out Starmount Engage throughout its brands, including Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, and Free People, to deliver a more connected, relevant shopping experience.
Urban Outfitters has recently made a splash in the news by announcing that it’s replacing cash registers throughout its chain with iPads, which enable a more interactive experience throughout the store. (Read the article in RIS News here.)
